PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, as satrap, 323-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.20 g, 6 h), In the name and with the types of Alexander III, Memphis, 322-321. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on a backless throne with a thick cushion and ornamental legs, holding an eagle in his right hand and a scepter with his left; in the field to left, rose; below and to right of the throne, ΔΙ-◦. CPE 19. Price 3971. SNG Copenhagen 7. Attractively toned and of particularly fine style. Light scrape on Herakles's chin, otherwise, extremely fine.

It is quite interesting the way the magistrate's initials appear on this coin: it is clear that the die engraver ran out of space and after using normal, big letters for ΔΙ, to finish he had to switch to a tiny ◦ on the far side of the throne leg!
