Tetarteron (Gold, 22 mm, 4.08 g, 6 h), Constantinople, 1005-1025. + IhS XIS RЄX RЄςNANTIhm Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator, wearing tunic, himation and a nimbus cruciger with two pellets in each arm, raising his right hand in benediction and holding Book of Gospels in his left. Rev. + bASIL C COhSTAhTI bR + Crowned facing half-length figure of Basil, on the left, with short beard and wearing a modified loros, and Constantine, on the right, beardless and wearing an elaborate robe, holding a patriarchal cross between them with their right hands. DOC 15a. Füeg 15.a (this coin). SB 1805. Extremely rare, Füeg only knew of three examples, including this one). Well-struck and most attractive. Tiny die break on the reverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From the Bollen Collection of Byzantine Coins and that of W.H. Hunt, Sotheby's, 5 December 1990, 745.

The highly elaborate robe worn by Constantine seems designed to emphasize his quasi-civilian and subordinate status in relation to his brother.
