LUCANIA. Metapontion. Circa 340-330 BC. Nomos or Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 7.72 g, 7 h). Bearded head of Leukippos to right, wearing a Corinthian helmet; behind, cross-headed torch. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Barley ear with leaf to right; to right, TΗ. HN III 1555. Johnston A5.3 (same dies). SNG ANS 405-6 (same dies). SNG Lloyd 383 (same obverse die). An attractively toned and well struck piece with an elegant head of Leukippos in the finest late Classical style. Graffito and very minor die crack on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
