SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 4.07 g, 8 h), probably an unsigned work by Eukleidas, circa 405-400. [Σ]Υ-Ρ-Α-Κ-ΟΣΙ-[ΩΝ] Head of Athena facing, her head turned slightly to left, wearing triple crested Attic helmet, earring and necklace of pendant acorns; around, four dolphins. Rev. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙ-[ΩΝ] Leukaspis, nude but for helmet, striding right, holding couched spear in his right hand and shield with his left; below and behind to left, square altar with fire burning on top and with a garland on the side; below to right, sacrificed ram lying on its back; in the exergue, here off the flan, [ΛΕΥΚΑΣΠΙΣ]. BMFA 420 = Warren 388. HGC 2, 1364. Kreutzer II.7.42 (this coin). SNG ANS 308 (same dies). Very rare. Toned. Unobtrusive die break on the reverse and minor marks and scratches, otherwise, good very fine.

These drachms seem to have been produced during the first few years of Dionysios I, linking the Syracusan coinage of the Second Democracy with that of his tyranny.
