SATRAPS OF CARIA. Pixodaros, circa 341/0-336/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 15.29 g, 12 h), Halikarnassos. Laureate head of Apollo facing, turned slightly to the right, and with the ends of his cloak bound by a broach beneath his chin. Rev. ΠΙΞΩΔΑΡΟΥ Zeus Labraundos standing to right, fully draped and holding a long scepter with his left hand and a double-axe with his right; below, between Zeus's left ankle and the butt of the sceptre, Ε. HN Online ID 48 (temporary). SNG Kayhan 890 (same dies). SNG von Aulock 8047 (same dies). Toned and of a particularly fine style with a lovely youthful 'portrait' of Apollo. Light marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
