IONIA, Magnesia ad Maeandrum. Circa 350-325 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 15.08 g 11), Rhodian standard weight, under the magistrate Lycomedes. Armored cavalryman, wearing helmet, holding couched lance in his right hand and with his cloak flowing back from his shoulders, riding horse prancing to right. Rev. ΜΑΓΝ / ΛΥΚΟΜΗΔ Bull butting to left; all within circular maeander pattern. SNG Kayhan 409 (but magistrate’s name differently arranged). Very rare. A splendid glossy piece with lovely toning. Extremely fine.
