GREECE. Thessaloniki International Fair, 1934. Medal (Bronze gilt, 50 mm, 57.75 g, 12 h), struck on the occation of the 9th international fair in Thessaloniki, in 1934, from dies prepared by M. Nero. 9η ΔΙΕΘΝΗC ΕΚΘΕCIC ΘΕCCΑΛΟΝΙΚΗC 1934 The patron saint of Thessaloniki, St. Demetrios on horseback to left, with a halo bearing his name around his head, holding the reigns of his horse with his left hand and spearing with his left hand an unseen enemy; above the exergue line, Μ.Νέρο in tiny letters. Rev. Farmer plowing to left with two oxen. Chase, Medals, 1266. With a suspension hole and some bangs on the edge, otherwise, good very fine.

The Thessaloniki International Fair is the most important fair in Greece It is traditionally held, since its establishment in 1926, in September of each year. On the occasion of this fair, the Prime Minister of Greece announces the program of his government for the coming year, adding a political significance to the already important commercial one.
